Lourdes University has asked the city to vacate this portion of High Street, next to the university's mid-campus.
Lourdes University is requesting to vacate a section of High Street so the land can be absorbed into the mid-campus.
Sylvania City council is reviewing a request to close off about 170 feet of the street that dead ends into the university’s new mid-campus site, which is under construction. The area is just west of Allen Street off of Convent Boulevard.
Two homes owned by the university reside on the street’s 6600 block. One is unoccupied. The university plans to demolish both once the second one becomes unoccupied in October.
The properties are next to the mid-campus, which is more than 11 acres of land between Brint and Convent roads. The land is being upgraded to connect the residential-housing students, at the Brint and McCord intersection, to the main campus on Convent.
Crews are in the process of completing a walking path planned near the requested vacated section of High Street.
City Council will host a public hearing regarding the street request at 6:30 p.m. July 21.
