Sylvania resident suspected of distributing child pornography

Sylvania Police have confiscated a resident’s computer and mobile devices over allegations that he may be distributing child pornography.

Capt. Rick Schnoor said the department executed a search warrant Monday to retrieve the hardware from a home in the 5600 block of Monroe Street. The items -- a cell phone, external hard drives, and a notebook computer pad -- are being checked by the department for alleged child pornographic images.

The department has a certified computer forensics examiner on staff and actively monitors the Internet for child pornography, he said.

The adult male suspect is being investigated for distributing and transferring materials that portray an illegal use of photographs of minors in nudity-oriented material. Details on the suspect are being withheld pending the investigation.

Captain Schnoor expects the investigation to last about a week, at which time charges and an arrest are possible.
