Valerie Taylor, 17, center, laughs while touring her new home for the first time today during the final reveal of the Taylor family's new house in Sylvania Township.
A celebration to reveal a new home for the Taylor family has been months in the making.
The Professional Remodelers Organization has worked with many local businesses, on planning and fund-raising for the building project. Today, community leaders and volunteers showed off the new house during an afternoon celebration.
The project was fulfilled with the support of nearly 100 local businesses, according to the Professional Remodelers Organization. Construction of the home was named the president's project earlier in the year.
The Taylor family, which includes parents Veronica and Tom Taylor, and their daughter Valerie, live in the 3300 block of Cason Ave., Sylvania Township. Valerie attends Sylvania's Southview High School and has multiple medical disabilities, including spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy, epilepsy, asthma, glaucoma, vision and hearing loss, and spasmodic torticollis.
Students from Southview High School raised about $32,000 in the spring of this year to go toward the project.
The Professional Remodelers Organization members and volunteers were busy on the final design. They razed the original house, and constructed a new 1,553 square foot home, according to the remodelers organizations. The new home includes features that provide accessibility for Valerie.
The reveal celebration was made extra special with music from the Southview High School band. Tours of the new house were given to attendees.
