About 1,350 students, directors, and chaperones have registered early for the 2013 State Thespian Conference March 1-3 at the recently renovated theater at Northview High School.
Final registration for the Ohio Educational Theatre Association conference ends in a week and a half.
As part of the conference, announced by Sylvania Schools in December, selected thespians from across the state have been invited to perform Rent, edited for a school production. Several students from Northview, Anthony Wayne, and Bowling Green schools as well as from the Toledo School for the Arts have been chosen to be in the production.
The Northview production of The Sound of Music was one of the few shows statewide invited to present at the conference. The Northview Drama Department will provide a public encore performance The Sound of Music at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 24 at the high school. Tickets are on sale at www.northviewtheatre.org.
The OEdTA is an official chapter of the Educational Theatre Association, a professional association for theatre educators with over 4,600 world-wide. The honorary society for high school theatre students, the International Thespian Society, has troupes in over 3,900 schools nationally and inducted more than 2 million members since it was founded in 1929. Ohio has over 200 troupes registered.
