The Sylvania School District has set a date for the auction of the old Central Elementary School property.

The two parcels of property, at 3124 and 3364 King Rd., in Sylvania Township, will be auctioned at 4 p.m. on July 18, said the district's Chief Financial Officer Laura Sauber.

She said a Web site presence for the sale was being worked out by the auctioneers, Amlin Auction of Maumee.

The Board of Education is expected to establish a minimum price, however she said that will not be disclosed to the public.

At a meeting this week, the Sylvania Township Board of Trustees unanimously approved a zone change request by the school district to convert the more than 13 acres of land to a commercial designation. One parcel was designated as rural residential and the other was a mix classification of rural residential and commercial.

A public hearing was held before the vote, but no residents spoke about the zoning change. The building has been vacant since December, when the Sylvania Schools students moved to a new building on Mitchaw Road.

Mrs. Sauber said that some developers have showed interest in purchasing the site. The site is located in a zone that is surrounded by businesses and other commercial properties.

The Toledo-Lucas County Plan Commission and the township Zoning Commission unanimously approved the zone change request this month.
