Three Sylvania area sites are among the flu shot clinics planned before the end of October by the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department.
One is today, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Church. A second is 8 to 10:30 a.m. Oct. 22 at the Sylvania Senior Citizens Center on Sylvania Avenue. And a third is 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Sylvania United Church of Christ. Many other clinics are set for other spots around the county.
Influenza can lead to hospitalization and sometimes death. From 1976 to 2007, flu-associated deaths have been estimated to be 3,000 to 49,000 a year, and 90 percent occur in people age 65 and older.
The cost to get the flu vaccine is $30, and the health department will bill Medicare Part B, Ohio Medicaid Programs, and Paramount insurances.
