Third report involving student and suspicious vehicle thought to be a hoax

Authorities have deemed a third incident involving a student and a suspicious vehicle, to most likely be a hoax.

Sylvania Township Police chief Robert Boehme said that the department is “99.9 percent sure this morning's incident never occurred.”

Early this morning, an 11-year-old Sylvania Schools student reported that a man in a white van approached her as she was waiting at the bus stop. It was later determined this afternoon that the report was untrue.

Two Sylvania students have been approached by a man driving a white van in the past two weeks. On Wednesday, a man in a white van tried to talk to a middle school student who was walking home from school on Roberts Road, near Alexis Road.

Last week, a suspect driving the same type of vehicle tried to lure a 9-year-old boy into his van at Maplewood Avenue near Erie Street. Both children ran away and the Sylvania Police Department was called in both cases.

The Sylvania Township Police Department continues to investigate the situation.
