The Perrysburg Soccer Club and Greater Toledo Futbol Club rallied around one of its own by hosting a three-on-three soccer tournament Saturday to raise money for the family of Maya Kinney, 13, who needs major surgery.

Maya has a rare case of adolescent scoliosis, and is expecting a lengthy December surgery to straighten her back. Maya, of South Toledo, has played soccer since she was 4. Her mother, Jen Kinney, said the surgery will cost about $150,000. Since Maya won‘‍t be able to be active for a year, she wants to take her daughter to HalloWeekends at Cedar Point before the surgery.

Maya is planning on getting back into soccer after she’‍s healed up, possibly for high school teams.

The fund-raiser tournament was at Rivercrest Park in Perrysburg from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with more than 70 teams with players from 6 years old to adults. Jorge Diaz, vice president of the Perrysburg Soccer Club, and Perrysburg High School coach, was hoped to be able to donate more than $3,000 to the family.

The event also featured T-shirt sales, raffles, contests, and some concessions. There an online donation page at
