Owens women crush Sinclair 111-66

DAYTON -- Zhana Randolph led seven players in double figures as Owens women's basketball team closed the regular season in record setting fashion with a 111-66 win on Saturday over Sinclair Community College.

The Express jumped on Sinclair early, draining their first four field goals, all from 3-point range. Randolph had two of them, while Paige Wright and Kamilah Carter had the others. When the dust settled, the Express had a 14-0 lead with 17:31 left in the half.

A little later, another 3-pointer from Eboni Adams gave the Express a 20-3 lead with 15:31 left. With 13:37 left, LaKayra Carlisle's lay-up pushed the lead to 20 at 26-6.

The Express would lead by as many as 23 in the half before taking a 60-39 lead into the break. Sinclair's Osha Owens hit a jumper just before the buzzer sounded.

Carter opened the second half with back-to-back 3-pointers, before Adams hit a lay-up to give the Express a 68-39 lead with 17:42 remaining.

The Express later led by as many as 47 at two different points down the stretch before settling on a 45-point winning margin.

While Randolph finished with a season-high 18 points on 7-for-10 (4-for-6 3-point range) shooting, along with four assists, six others hit double figures in scoring.

Ashley Tunstall picked up her fifth straight double-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals. She finished 5-for-8 from the field and a team best 6-for-8 from the foul line.

Aside from Tunstall, another freshman post player, Maura Hackney picked up a season-high in scoring with 14 points, along with nine rebounds and two assists.

Other hitting double figures were: Carter (17), Wright (12), Adams (10) and Imani Vickers with 11. Wright added a team-high 10 assists.

From the field, the Express broke the program's single game field goal percentage record as they finished 45-for-71 (63.4 percent) overall and 12-for-18 (66.7 percent) from 3-point range. Their 3-point field goal percentage tied the program's single game team mark. The Express added nine points on 16 attempts from the foul line.

The Express close the regular season 25-2 overall and 11-1 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC). They already clinched an OCCAC title for the second consecutive season and the third time in the past four seasons. They also picked up their fifth straight 25 win season, which is one more than the four total in previous seasons of program history.

The Express will open up district tournament play on Friday against the winner of Sinclair Community College and Edison Community College at 1 p.m. All tournament games will be held at Ohio Christian University in Circleville, Ohio.
