Kenny Hewitt has been named the women’s soccer coach at Owens Community College.

Hewitt becomes the second coach in program history. He succeeds Mary Whisler, who went 42-12-5 in three years.

Hewitt, of Brighton, England, has been an assistant coach with the men’s and women’s soccer programs at Carson-Newman (Tenn.) the last two years. The men’s team reached the NCAA Division II national championship game last year.

He was a four-year starter at Ashland University, helping the Eagles win three Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships and one conference tournament title.

Hewitt will take over a program that just completed its best season at 17-2-2. The team won an NJCAA Region XII tournament championship and reached the national tournament.
