Delta Chicken Fest offers tasty weekend
7/12/2012The 2012 Delta Chicken Festival will kick off Friday and run through Sunday at Delta Municipal Park, 601 Taylor St. Guests can ride an elephant, rock with the bands, or relax and watch a parade. Other highlights include family-friendly games, a class reunion, fireworks, and, of course, chicken. The Party in the Street lineup Friday features Up for Grabs at 5 p.m. and the Menus at 9 p.m., followed by fireworks at 10:30. On Saturday, Mr. Speed KISS Tribute Band will perform at 9 p.m. Haywire will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission and parking are free. Information: deltachickenfestival.com.

Actor/comedian Don "D.C." Curry will perform six shows at the Toledo Funny Bone Fatfish Blue tonight through Thursday. His acting credits include Next Friday, Friday After Next, and reccuring roles on The Steve Harvey Show and The Hughley's. He can be heard as the voice of Mister Ruckus on The Boondocks. Tickets are $16 Thursday and Sunday and $18 Friday and Saturday. Shows begin at 7 p.m. today and Sunday; Friday at 8 and 10:30 p.m., and Saturday at 7 and 10 p.m. Guests must be 21 or older to attend.

Natural hair enthusiasts will gather at Noiree Baazar Saturday for roundtable discussions on topics such as transitioning from relaxed to natural hair, hair growth, and maintenance. Other highlights will include natural hair demonstrations, a marketplace where guests can buy hair care products, and refreshments. The event will run from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gerber House at Collingwood Arts Plaza, 2413 Collingwood Blvd. Admission is $3.

A village-wide garage sale along Main Street in Marblehead will be held Saturday. Residents of Marblehead and Danbury Township will bring their treasures to sell in front of participating merchants' stores from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Local restaurants along Main Street will have specials for the day ranging from Cuban cooking to down-home meals, and the historic Holy Assumption Church downtown will offer old-world homemade baked goods as well as a big yard sale on the front lawn. The garage sale spans Main Street from Jamestown Tavern, the oldest tavern in Marblehead, and east to the church and Ex Libris Library and Bookshop.
