Fort Meigs siege anniversary commemorated


Re-enactors from the United States and Canada will commemorate the 200th anniversary of the First Siege of Fort Meigs by recreating military camps and tactical demonstrations from 1813. The event, which runs Friday through Sunday, will include a parade, battle tactic re-creations, artillery, rifle and musket demonstrations, a ladies tea, and exhibits. Activities are from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $9 for adults, $8 for seniors over 60, and $5 for students. Hop on board a locomotive for National Train Day on Saturday. The Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments will celebrate with a festival of activities and a variety of trains. Amtrak cars, Norfolk Southern, and W&LE engines will be on display at the event, which takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Martin Luther King, Jr., Plaza at 450 Emerald Ave. There also will be kids' rides, vendor booths, and contests. Soul and funk music group the Average White Band will perform Friday at the River Raisin Centre for the Arts. The group known for "Cut the Cake," "Pick Up the Pieces, "Walk on By," and "Your Love is a Miracle," is from Scotland and has performed around the world for more than 30 years. The band released its debut album in 1973. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $32 for adults, $29 for seniors, and $18 for students.
