Old West End shows off its wares this weekend

Dave Kosmyna's home at 2044 Collingwood Blvd. in Toledo. The home will be part of the 42nd annual Historic Old West End Festival home tours. The home was built in 1907.

Six homes are on the 42nd annual Historic Old West End Festival tour this weekend, an event that year after year draws thousands who show up to enjoy the house tours and participate in the fun.

While guests visiting the mansions on Glenwood, Scottwood, and Collingwood avenues will “ooh” and “ah” about the grand dwellings and their elaborate décor, there’s plenty more to enjoy.

Along with the usual festival expectations of food, entertainment, garage and yard sales, and children’s activities, there is an art fair on the grounds of the Toledo Museum of Art Glass Pavilion.

Saturday marks the 104th anniversary of the King Wamba Carnival Parade. When it begins at 10 a.m., there will be art cars, floats, performance art, and musical presentations. The parade route is on the festival guide. The king and queen will be crowned in the front of the Historic Mansion View Inn.

The parade starts at Robinwood and Collins (heading South), then goes west on Bancroft, and South on Collingwood and ends at Woodruff Avenue.

Also on Saturday is the antique car show in Toledo Spain Park in front of Park Lane Luxury Apartments. A community bash hosted by Scott High School is set for noon to 4 p.m. on the school lawn.

On Sunday, musical groups will perform at various points on the Old West End 5K run and walk course.

The homes on this year’s tour are: the craftsman style, yellow brick John Winfield House of Brian Burnett at 2351 Glenwood; the Casper-Whitaker House of Dan and Crystal Rogers at 2546 Glenwood; Ann Manor Condominiums at 2200 Scottwood; the William Morrison David Kosmyna Home at 2044 Collingwood; the Christian Gerber House at 2413 Collingwood, and the Reynolds Secor House, known as the Mansion View Inn, 2035 Collingwood.

Tour tickets are $15 for individuals — or $10 if purchased in advance — and $25 for couples. To see a single home, tickets are $5 each. Children age 12 and younger can tour free.

Anyone donating five canned goods to benefit St. Paul’s United Methodist Church or five canned pet food goods to benefit a local pet food bank at the information booth gets a tour ticket for $10.
