Musicians to rock Uptown Maumee

Downtown Maumee will be rocking with the sounds of live music Saturday as musicians perform for Rock-the-Block 2013. Rock band Wally & the Beavs will headline the event, with Dan Stewart & Frankie May as the opening act. The outdoor concert starts at 5 p.m. and runs until 11 p.m. in the 100 block of Dudley Street in Uptown Maumee. Food and adult beverages will be available. The Maumee Valley Historical Society will hold an antique appraisal fund-raiser from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Historical Commercial Building, 301 River Rd., Maumee. Attendees can bring small antiques for appraisal by professional appraiser Richard E. Stegman. Light hors d'oeuvres will be served, compliments of Degage Jazz Cafe. Admission is $15 per person and includes the appraisal of one antique. Additional appraisals are $5 each. Admission without an appraisal is $10. Weapons and large furniture items are not allowed. Juried art show Fiber577 will feature more than 100 pieces of art when it opens this weekend at the 577 Foundation. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at 577 E. Front St. in Perrysburg. Visitors to this free event can listen to live music, hunt for fiber "bombs" on the grounds, create works in a fiber-art studio, and watch demonstrations of spinning, weaving, felting, basket weaving, and more.
