Cats to compete for two days at the Rec Center
2/12/2014There will be cats galore this weekend as the Lucas County Recreation Center hosts the International Cat Association cat show and rescue adoption event. Hundreds of cats from all over the world will compete in the two-day event, which will feature six divisions for titles and regional and international awards.There also will be vendors selling feline products. Several different breeds will be at the show, including the curly Cornish Rex, the wild-looking Bengals and Savannahs, the folded-eared Scottish Fold, and many more. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $4 and parking is free. Information: ToledoCatShow.com or ToledoShow@AOL.com.
■The village of Whitehouse will be a flurry of fun on Saturday. Starting at 11 a.m., the village will kick off its annual Whitehouse Winterfest, with games, contests, food, and entertainment. Events will include cardboard sled races, a chili cook-off, flakiest family competition, snowman and snowball contests, horse and carriage rides, ice sculptures, an evening cabin fever dance for adults, a 5k race, and 1k kids race sponsored by the Toledo Roadrunners.
The adult dance will be at the Whitehouse American Legion Hall from 7 to 11 p.m. Advance tickets are required and are available at Village Hall. Cost is $20 per person or $35 per couple and includes music, appetizers, dance demonstrations and lessons, photos, and more. All other events will take place next to the Whitehouse Library, at 10651 Waterville St., and the Blue Creek Conservation Area sledding hill. Information: whitehouseoh.gov or 419-877-5383.
■A new crafts program at Sauder Village will highlight handmade goods. Through demonstrations, visitors will learn the art and process of making baskets, brooms, weaving, and spinning. Demonstrations Saturday will focus on rug hooking. There also will be a crafting session on making floral arrangements. Both events run from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. and are free.
