News of Art: Prizm’s annual Art-A-Fair opens Saturday

Art-A-Fair, Prizm’s annual juried show, will open with a reception from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday in the large lobby of Fifth Third Center at One SeaGate, 550 N. Summit St. Parking is available in the Vistula Parking garage, off North Superior at Orange streets. Awards will be presented at 3:30. This exhibit features visual and literary works, with quotes, stories, and poems sprinkled throughout. Landscapes and portraits by the late Julius Orosz will be included. Jurors are Thomas Muir, Dennis Wojtkiewicz, and Joel Lipman. Prizm is a nonprofit group that aims to nurture artists from novice to professional. The show will continue through May 26. Leslie Adams will deliver the annual Sr. Jane Mary Sorosiak Art Lecture at 2 p.m. March 30 in the Franciscan Center at Lourdes University in Sylvania. Her talk is free and will be followed by a reception. A Toledo native, Adams is a leader in the arts community as well as an award-winning portraitist who has painted public personalities including former Ohio Governors Bob Taft and Ted Strickland. She won a solo exhibition last year at the Toledo Museum of Art and her Sensazione: A Self Portrait, was one of 48 included in the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery’s Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition 2013. Applications for the annual Art Walk in Bowling Green are at bgartscouncil.com. The Art Walk will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 26.

People living within 50 miles of Bowling Green may apply to display and sell their work. Booths will be in downtown businesses. Hosting the event are BG Arts Council and Downtown BG. Awards include three juried and three people’s choice prizes. An after party will be at 6 p.m. in Grounds for Thought coffeeshop/​bookstore. Performance artists may contact info@downtownbgohio.org.

● A tour of Paper Roses: Garden-Inspired Works on Paper will be at 7 p.m. Friday in the Herrick Lobby.

Where Next? The Future of Art (School/​Work/​World) is a discussion with art educators and professionals from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Friday in Room 204 of the Fine Arts Center at Bowling Green State University.

Watercolor Garden, watercolors by Susan Dolder, will open with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Inside Angles. Most of Dolder’s work portrays larger-than-life flowers. The show will continue through May 9. The gallery is at 6831 Angola Rd. in Springfield Township. Information: 419-867-3533.

A mosaic class for people 8 and older will be 1 to 3 p.m. April 5 in the Waterville Library, 800 Michigan Ave., Waterville. Participants will make a 5-inch-by-7-inch mosaic window. The 14th Connect to Creativity Teen Art Show, featuring 128 drawings, paintings, and sculpture by 120 Lucas County students in grades six through 12, continues through April 26 in the Main Library’s Wintergarden area.
