R/C Model Expo to offer exhibits, talks, swap shop

Weak Signals R/C Model Expo, one of the country's largest and longest-running shows of its kind, will open Friday at SeaGate Convention Centre. The three-day event showcases all types of R/C models including planes, cars, and boats. The family-friendly show will include exhibitors, R/C model competition, speakers, swap shop, and an auction. The expo is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10 per person, per day. Kids ages 12 and younger are free.

â– Forrester's on the River will host a benefit from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday for Veterans Matter, a nonprofit organization that helps homeless veterans with housing. The fund-raiser will feature local bands, raffles, and a silent auction. All proceeds will go to Veterans Matter. The musical lineup includes the Good, The Bad & The Blues, the Joe Baker Band, the Grape Smugglers, the Reese Dailey Band, and appearances by Ramona Collins, Candice Coleman, Pat Lewandowski, and others. There also will be a limited food menu and cash bar. Cost is $15 per person and $25 per couple. For information, visit veteransmatter.org or call 419-277-4129.

â– Trace your roots at the 2014 Genealogy Workshop, presented by the Sylvania Area Historical Society. Guests will learn about researching genealogy, scrapbooking genealogy, and DNA. The workshop will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Sylvania Heritage Museum, 5717 N. Main St. The cost is $10 and pre-registration is required. Register at sylvaniahistory.org.
