Weak Signals R/C Model Expo, one of the country's largest and longest-running shows of its kind, will open Friday at SeaGate Convention Centre. The three-day event showcases all types of R/C models including planes, cars, and boats. The family-friendly show will include exhibitors, R/C model competition, speakers, swap shop, and an auction. The expo is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10 per person, per day. Kids ages 12 and younger are free.
â– Forrester's on the River will host a benefit from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday for Veterans Matter, a nonprofit organization that helps homeless veterans with housing. The fund-raiser will feature local bands, raffles, and a silent auction. All proceeds will go to Veterans Matter. The musical lineup includes the Good, The Bad & The Blues, the Joe Baker Band, the Grape Smugglers, the Reese Dailey Band, and appearances by Ramona Collins, Candice Coleman, Pat Lewandowski, and others. â– Trace your roots at the 2014 Genealogy Workshop, presented by the Sylvania Area Historical Society. Guests will learn about researching genealogy, scrapbooking genealogy, and DNA.
