    New exhibits:

    ● Friday at 7 p.m., the Northwest Ohio Community Art Exhibition will open with a 7 to 9 p.m. reception in the Fine Arts Center at Bowling Green State University. In its seventh year with $1,400 in prizes, it’s a nonjuried show that provides people of all skill levels a chance to show their work in a professional gallery setting.     ● A 6 to 10 p.m. reception Friday at Art Insight Emporium celebrates an exhibit of paintings and prints, many set in Michigan, by David Larkins. Larkins will speak about his work at 7 p.m. June 27 in the gallery at 50 W. Front St., Monroe.

    ● A 7 to 9 p.m. Friday meet-the-artists reception will be in Sam B’s Restaurant Gallery for a new display of 150 items ranging from jewelry, picnic baskets, beach bags, decorative wreaths, paintings, and glass by 25 people.     ● Opening Wednesday is a visual celebration of the 20th year of Young Artists at Work, with pieces by people who were instructors or students in the program’s previous two decades. Featured alums are Raquel Tiffany Orosco, Rachael Chappuies, Karen Becerra, Aaron Pickens, Courtney Fillion, Ian J. Welch, Hannah Crabtree, Mary Claus, Shannon Bauerschmidt, Jim Foos, Yusuf Lateef, Annie Bielski, Tim Redner, Caitlin Shawaker, Dawn Burggraf-Murphy, and King AG/​Aaron Guerra.

    It continues through July 25 in the Secor Building Studio and Gallery, 425 Jefferson Ave .

    The next Art Walk will be 6 to 9 p.m. June 26 in the Warehouse and UpTown areas at the edges of downtown with open galleries, studios, and businesses, and bustling sidewalks.

    Art Walks are the fourth Thursday of the month through September. Opening a show of paintings, photographs, and jewelry that evening is the joenstas’ gallery, 18 N. St. Clair St. For maps and information, contact theartscommission.org and 419-254-2787.

    Classes:

    ● A 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday workshop, How to Take Better Family Photos, will be taught by Gil Gonzalez, head of photographic resources at the Hayes Presidential Center in Fremont. Cost is $10, $5 for students. Register at rbhayes.org and 419-332-2081.

    ● Stephen Johnston and Kelly Savino will teach pottery and clay work to adults and Nadia Packard will teach children in classes offered by the Toledo Potters’ Guild at Toledo Botanical Garden. Adult classes begin the first week of July for 10 weeks, meet once a week (Tuesday or Thursday evenings), and cost $187. Children’s classes have various start dates, lengths, and costs.     ● A two-week drawing course for students who intend to major in art or are taking college-level art will be taught by Paul Geiger July 14-25. Cost is $275. Information: tholepinpress.com and 419-243-4944.

    ● Sonflower Quilts will host Embroidery Dayz from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, providing free demos on stem and back stitches and French knots. Supplies will be provided. The shop is at 6600 Sylvania Ave. in Sylvania. Information: 419-885-4438.

    Ascension 30, an installation of 30 vertically suspended glass pipes, each with a floating ping-pong ball, by Erwin Redl of Bowling Green is in the National Art Museum of China through July 7.

    Redl’s large work usually employs light and space, and is installed around the world. He was invited to Beijing after a solo show in February at Bitforms Gallery in New York City. His friend, Zhang Ga, came to the opening “and immediately wanted to have the big installation for the Beijing exhibition,” Redl wrote in an e-mail. To see his work, go to paramedia.net.
