SoundTrek 2014 to rock UpTown

    SoundTrek 2014, an all-local celebration of Toledo's live music heritage, will turn the UpTown district into a musical corridor Saturday. The experience, put together by the Arts Commission, will feature about 40 bands spread across 10 venues, with music ranging from rock, pop, and hip-hop to blues, jazz, R&B, and Americana.

    Performers include Nathan Roberts & the New Birds, Raq the Casbah, Katie's Randy Cat, Quickness, the Homeville Circle, Lori LeFevre Johnson, Estar Cohen Project, Ruth Nichols Trio, Buddy Boy Slim & the Blues Rockers, the Wanna Bees, 3 Rings Left, and jaefame. Venues include Ottawa Tavern, Truth Art Gallery, the Attic on Adams, Manhattans, Toledo School for the Arts, Moxie Live, Wesley's, and the Main Library.

    Concerts will run from 7 p.m. to midnight. Single venue admission is $5 and wristbands for admission to all venues are $15 the night of the event.     ■Toledo Urban Federal Credit Union will host its 10th annual African American Music Festival this weekend at the University of Toledo Scott Park Campus. The festival will feature African-American history, health screenings, cultural foods, and performances.

    The family event starts with a prayer breakfast. The official kickoff to the festival is a parade. Two days of entertainment will include national recording artists, local talent, vendors, rides, and activities for the kids.

    This year's performance line-up will include: the Five Deep Band, Heatwave, Katrina Barnhill, the Kalvin Hughes Urban Jazz Coalition, the Rance Allen Group, and many more. On Saturday, admission is $35 for VIP, $20 for general admission, and $5 for students and children ages 12 through 17. Seniors age 65 and older will be admitted for $10 and children under age 12 are admitted free. On Sunday, VIP admission is $15 and general admission is $10. Tickets for seniors, college students with ID, and children age 4 to 18 are $5. Children under 4 are admitted free. Weekend passes are $40 for VIP and $25 for general admission.     ■The four-day 2014 Lima's Funniest Lady Comedy Festival, which celebrates actress/comedian Phyllis Diller, who was born in Lima, continues today with an all-female showcase featuring Carla Goldbusch at 8 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Lima. The show is free. Karen Jaffe, will bring her improvisational troupe Lofty Aspirations to the Ohio Theatre Friday. Show time is 8 p.m. and tickets are $7. The event will close with open mic comedy at 5 p.m. Saturday at Gilbert's Music. There is a $3 cover charge. Information: limalandcomedy.com.
