Tom Turner and Slow Burn

Line up: Tom Turner, lead vocals, acoustic/electric guitars; Kyle Turner, organ, synth, Yamaha Grand, and Fender Rhodes; Dave Tippett, trumpet; Brian Lang, tenor saxophone; Mark Sentle, drums; Kevin Johnson, fretless bass/electric guitars; Trez Gregory, vocals; and Yvonne Ehrenfried, vocals.

Year formed: 2004.

Style of music: Original music that contains elements of blues, funk, soul, and pop, with a twist of jazz.

Sounds a little like: Delbert McClinton, Van Morrison, and maybe a touch of James Taylor.

Influences: I would say that my writing was influenced by soul music produced by legendary artists like Van Morrison, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, and most of what happened at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, Ala., as well as, Motown. Many feel that Slow Burn has a particularly soulful sound all its own. I write from the heart and what creeps through are the feelings I have resonating within me from my musical journey. I was 13 in 1969 when Woodstock showed the world the power of music. You can only imagine how wide the eyes of a young musician would have been then.

Favorite local venue: I chose Martini & Nuzzi's for this CD release party because they promote their entertainment well.

Upcoming gigs: This CD release party constitutes a new beginning for Tom Turner & Slow Burn, 6 p.m. Sunday at Martini & Nuzzi's, 6023 Manley Rd. in Maumee. Doors open at 4 p.m.
