Local TV scooped up 11 Emmys from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences

Local television scooped up 11 Emmy Awards last weekend from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) Lower Great Lakes Chapter.

WUPW-TV’s Fox News at 10 took Best Evening Newscast in a Market 41-plus and WTOL News at 5 was named Best Newscast Morning/​Daytime in a Market 41-plus.

WUPW-TV, Channel 36, and WTOL-TV, Channel 11, share newsrooms.

WTVG-TV, Channel 13, and its 13abc Action News Weekend received Best Weekend Newscast in a Market 41-plus and its weekend anchor Bill Hormann was cited as On-Air Talent -- Anchor News, while the station’s Sports Director, Dave Holmes, won for Sports -- Single News Story and also an award for writing. The station also won in the Continuing Coverage category for its reporting of “The Baby Elaina Story.”

In non-news categories, WTVG won an Emmy for its promotion “This is Home,” while WTOL’s “Protect Your Idea” won for commercial. WBGU-TV won in the research category for Made in America: Lima Locomotive Works, and in the student category for Arts/​Entertainment and Cultural Affairs for Scenic Stops: S.S.T.R.E.S. & Mighty Wyte, a program about Toledo hip-hop artists.

NATAS Lower Great Lakes Chapter are the Cleveland, Indianapolis, Toledo, Youngstown, Fort Wayne, Lima, Erie, Pa., and Lafayette, Ind., markets. The winners were announced Saturday in Cleveland.
