Information is sought on man who scammed, later robbed 76-year-old

4/7/2001

Toledo police are seeking information about a man who robbed a 76-year-old man in March and scammed him two months earlier, posing as an employee of a local towing company.

The man entered Ray Widmer's house in the 1900 block of Greenwood Avenue on March 23 through an unlocked door. The man confronted Mr. Widmer, who is in a wheelchair, in his living room and demanded money. Mr. Widmer refused. The man took money anyway and fled, police said.

Mr. Widmer recognized the man as one of the men at his house in January who picked up towing fees for his car, which was towed in August, 2000.

The man is described as white, in his early to mid-30s, 5 feet, 9 inches tall, and weighing about 200 pounds. He has long brown hair.
