McCOMB, Ohio - A Sept. 23 fire that killed a McComb woman has been ruled arson, state fire investigators said yesterday.

Thomas Ratcliff, spokesman for the state fire marshal's office, said a $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the blaze at the three-unit apartment house on East Main Street.

He declined to comment on how or where the fire was set because of the pending criminal investigation. The body of Kathryn Stevens, 37, was found on the first floor at the rear of the family's apartment.

Her husband and their three children were hospitalized for smoke inhalation but survived the blaze that destroyed their home.

Yellow police tape is still wrapped around the burned-out house, where flowers and a wreath also have been left in memory of Mrs. Stevens.
