Bond set for suspects in turnpike drug bust

1/3/2003

A day after being caught with what authorities believe is $5.1 million in marijuana, three men are being held on bonds in excess of $1 million.

Quang T. Ton, 29, and Can T. Nguyen, 35, are in the Lucas County jail on $1.5 million bond on charges of possession of marijuana and trafficking in marijuana. Thach T. Wana, 32, is being held on $2 million bond for the same charges. The trio, all from Washington state, were arraigned in Maumee Municipal Court yesterday.

The Ohio Highway Patrol arrested the men on the Ohio Turnpike near Toledo Express Airport after a drug-detecting dog found 113 pounds of suspected marijuana. One suspect told troopers he was paid to take the drugs to New York.
