Checkpoints target drunken drivers

Police in Sylvania Township and Oregon will be on the lookout for drunken drivers this weekend.

Township police will conduct a sobriety checkpoint tonight on Central Avenue between Reynolds and Centennial roads. Police will announce the exact time and location of the checkpoint at 4 p.m. today.

The stretch of Central has had several alcohol-related crashes, and police have arrested 57 drivers for driving under the influence on the highway in the last six months.

In Oregon, police will set up a sobriety checkpoint tomorrow. They will announce the exact time and location of the checkpoint tomorrow.

The checkpoints are meant to detect and intercept impaired drivers.
