TIPTON, Mich. - A weekend fire destroyed three barns and killed six cows just west of here in Lenawee County's Franklin Township.
The fire began about 3 p.m. Saturday when a man was using a skid loader in the barn, said Deputy Chief Tim Settles of the Sand Lake Fire Department. The muffler of the skid loader apparently brushed against a bale of hay and started the fire.
The flames quickly spread throughout the barn and the two connected barns at 6558 Feller Rd.
Firefighters were at the scene until about 8 p.m., Deputy Chief Settles said.
Authorities were continuing their investigation yesterday.
