Baby foods, products stolen from food bank

9/4/2003

Toledo Seagate Food Bank at 526 High St. in South Toledo was robbed of an estimated $17,000 worth of assorted baby foods and products some time before a warehouse manager discovered the break-in early yesterday.

Gone were crates of formula, jars of baby food, diapers, wipes, and baby laundry detergent, Deborah Vas, the company's executive director, said

The break-in was discovered about 7 a.m. when the manager reported to work and saw that three locks on the front door were pried open.

The facility had an activated alarm system which did not go off, Ms. Vas said.

This was the first successful break-in at the facility after several break-in attempts, she said.
