Police: 2 men charged in trafficking of cocaine

10/1/2003

Two East Toledo men were being held in the Lucas County Jail last night after they were caught with two kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of $400,000, authorities said.

David and Eugenio Moroyoqui, both of 54 Birmingham Terrace, are charged with trafficking in drugs (cocaine). Each is being held in lieu of $75,000 bond. David Moroyoqui, 47, also is charged with possession of powder cocaine, while Eugenio Moroyoqui, 18, also is charged with drug abuse, possession of cocaine.

Members of the Toledo-Metro Drug Task Force were looking at the men for trafficking in drugs, and they became the target of an investigation about six months ago, Toledo police Capt. Wes Bombrys said yesterday.

The men were expected to deliver the 4.4 pounds of cocaine but were intercepted by authorities in the parking lot of the Farmer Jack grocery store, 1707 Cherry St., about 3:50 p.m. Friday. They were arrested without incident.

The two wrapped packages of cocaine were stamped with the word “DOLLAR” and had a fake $100 on them. They were concealed in a Panasonic stereo box on the floor of the car, Captain Bombrys said.

He said authorities are investigating where the cocaine came from, but there's little doubt where it was headed: It “was bound for distribution on the streets of Toledo,” the captain said.

In addition to the drugs, police seized the men's car. They were arraigned Monday on the first-degree felony charges in Toledo Municipal Court.
