10/6/2003

A 20-year-old man was arrested early yesterday after he allegedly held up a West Bancroft Street convenience store.

Byron Layson, 1108 Indiana Ave., remained in the Lucas County jail yesterday after he was arrested for an armed robbery at the 7-Eleven store, 2601 West Bancroft.

Police said a man walked into the convenience store about 3:40 a.m., brandishing a bread knife and demanded cash from the register.

The man fled the store after receiving the money, but a witness outside the store saw the man running and followed the suspect to his car, parked behind nearby University Lanes. The witness wrote down the license plate number of the car and called police, authorities said.
