Man who was trapped in greasy vent enters jail

11/11/2003

A man who went down a grease-filled vent at a West Toledo diner and became stuck inside, inches above the grill, was booked into the Lucas County jail yesterday after being released from the hospital.

Edwin Geller, 40, of 5504 Lewis Ave., was being held on two counts of breaking and entering and three unrelated misdemeanor warrants. He is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow in Toledo Municipal Court. He was booked into the jail after being treated in St. Anne Mercy Hospital for burns and other injuries.

A waitress at the Trilby Diner, 5755 Secor Rd., found Geller as she was getting ready to open the eatery about 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Firefighters spent two hours freeing him from the nearly 16-inch by 16-inch vent.
