Suspect is arraigned in diner burglary

11/13/2003

The Toledo man whose alleged burglary attempt at a West Toledo diner left him stuck in the establishment's greasy vent was arraigned yesterday in Toledo Municipal Court.

Bond for Edwin Geller, 40, of 5504 Lewis Ave. was set by Judge Francis Gorman at $10,000 on two counts of burglary. Geller remained in the Lucas County jail late yesterday.

A waitress at the Trilby Diner, 5755 Secor Rd., found Geller trapped in the vent and dangling inches from the grill at 6 a.m. Nov. 5 when she arrived to open the restaurant. Firefighters spent two hours freeing him from the 16-inch by 16-inch vent.

He was hospitalized at St. Anne's Mercy Hospital for burns and other injuries before he was booked into jail. A preliminary hearing was set for Nov. 26.
