Teen on stolen ATV hurt while fleeing police

A Toledo teenager was hurt yesterday after he and an accomplice fled from police on a stolen all-terrain vehicle, slammed into a passing car, and were thrown into a metal utility box, officers said.

Police said the two boys, one 15 and the other 16, were driving eastbound on East Broadway near Mott Avenue about 1:30 p.m. when they struck a vehicle and were thrown into a phone service utility box. The 16-year-old boy was taken to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center by an ambulance, but his accomplice fled on foot, Sgt. Richard Murphy said.

While at the scene, police learned the ATV was stolen, so when a third teenager showed up to claim it, they were able to learn the identity of the 15-year-old.

All three face charges of receiving stolen property, among others.
