TEMPERANCE - Two 18-year-old Petersburg men are being investigated for allegedly building and detonating up to seven pipe bombs in mail and newspaper boxes across southern Monroe County, county sheriff's detectives said.

The men have not been charged but are suspected of destroying the boxes during the last three months in Summerfield, Whiteford, Ida, and Bedford townships, Detective Tom Redmond said.

One of the two allegedly confessed to investigators and explained to them intricate details of building the explosive devices, Detective Redmond said. The two men are recent high school graduates.

The investigation has been turned over to the Monroe County Prosecutor's Office.
