A Libbey High School teacher went on trial yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court for allegedly having sex with a female student in the school.
Richard Wisbon, 38, of Holland is charged with sexual battery. Mr. Wisbon, who is a vocational education and workshop instructor, was suspended with pay in February after the student, who was then 17, told authorities they had sex in a classroom.
The student told a jury that Mr. Wisbon had sex with her on Feb. 6 in the woodshop classroom during a school pep assembly. She said she told a friend about the incident, and the friend told her mother who reported the incident to a coach at the school.
Judge William Skow is presiding over the trial, which is expected to continue today.
