Girl recants tale of being abducted

An 11-year-old girl yesterday withdrew her allegations that she was abducted at knifepoint Tuesday and driven around East Toledo, then choked until she was unconscious, police said.

The girl admitted her story was not true during further interviews as she was asked to recount details about where the assailant took her. Discrepancies arose during questioning, Sgt. Cheryl Hunt said.

For example, an alley her attacker drove in at high speed had too many potholes for fast travel, but the girl never mentioned any bumps, Sergeant Hunt said.

The girl told police the man came into the upper unit of a duplex in the 800 block of Delence Street and forced her from the residence and into a pickup. She said the suspect drove her around and choked her. She claimed she woke up in an alley and approached a resident in the 500 block of Raymer Boulevard, about a mile from her home, who called police.

She gave details about an attacker who doesn't exist, including a lengthy description of what he looked like and his vehicle.
