Jackson, Mich., man held on home-invasion counts
3/26/2005HILLSDALE - A 42-year-old Jackson, Mich., man was being held in the Hillsdale County jail last night in lieu of $140,000 on home invasion charges related to the theft of scores of antiques from area homes and barns.
Douglas Parks was arraigned Thursday and last week in Hillsdale District Court on separate charges brought by the county sheriff's office and the Jonesville post of the Michigan State Police.
Similar charges are pending against Mr. Parks in Jackson County, Michigan.
Authorities suspect Mr. Parks broke into numerous homes and barns in Hillsdale, Jackson, and Lenawee counties over the last eight months and stole antique crystal, glassware, china, and other valuables.
A search of Mr. Parks' home uncovered some of the items reported stolen, including more than 20 sets of china, according to Detective Cyndee Gochanour, of the state police.
Detective Gochanour said Mr. Parks is accused of stealing the items to sell them. She said numerous items have not been reported stolen. Authorities are searching for their owners.
