Toledo man no longer faces charges in assault, killing

Murder charges have been dropped against Marcus Odoms.

Murder charges have been filed against Reginald Scott.

Four felonious assault charges were dismissed yesterday against a Toledo man that had stemmed from a homicide Sunday, and another city man was charged with murder in the death.

Marcus D. Odoms, 27, is no longer wanted by police in the shooting death of 24-year-old Leandrew K. Jones. Investigators said a witness was mistaken when identifying Odoms.

However, police filed an arrest warrant charging Reginald L. Scott, 25, of 1709 Shenandoah Rd. with one count of murder in the case. He and Paul L. Moses, 31, of Burke Glen Road - who was charged with one count of murder and four counts of felonious assault - were not in custody last night.

"At the time, there was enough probable cause to file the warrants" against Odoms, Lt. Bill Moton said.

Jones of 1704 Parkdale Ave. was shot in the head at close range as he left a party in the 1300 block of Belmont Avenue.

According to Toledo Municipal Court records, Scott furnished a handgun to Moses and was "aware and present" when Moses used the gun to shoot Jones in the head.

Scott's name first came to police through a Crime Stopper tip.

Investigators said Jones and Moses fought months ago but had not seen one another again until early Sunday at the Blueprint Sports Bar & Lounge, 1919 Monroe St.

The two began to scuffle at the bar before security personnel threw them and other patrons out. The fight continued on the street and a woman was run over by a vehicle during the chaos.

Detectives said Odoms was involved in the fight at the bar but was not in the area when the murder occurred later.

"[Odoms and Scott] are very similar in stature. This is happening in the middle of the night, fights are going on," Lieutenant Moton said. "There have been times when people have seen something and, as we investigate, we try to verify information we have at the time. As we further investigate, we realize that information was incorrect."

Pamela Daniels, Odoms' mother, said she was glad the charges against her son were dropped.

"My son had nothing to do with it," she said.

Odoms could not be reached for comment last night.
