The husband of a Toledo police officer charged with the murder of a 44-year-old man appeared yesterday in Toledo Municipal Court before Judge C. Allen McConnell.

Bond for Tyreece Herron, 26, of 522 Continental Blvd., was continued at $500,000. A preliminary hearing was set for Friday.

He was being held in the Lucas County jail.

Herron is charged in the Aug. 7 shooting death of Harold Long, 44, of 3247 Cherry, Apt. 2. The two were heard arguing and struggling in Mr. Long's apartment before the shooting, police said.

He was arrested Friday after he went to the Safety Building for questioning.

Court records showed Herron married Candi Johnson, a police officer, in March, 2004. She has been a Toledo police officer since 2003.

Chief Michael Navarre confirmed yesterday that Officer Johnson is a member of the department, but wouldn't elaborate on the relationship between Herron and the officer, saying the matter is under investigation.

Chief Navarre said Officer Johnson's status with the department has not been affected.
