Toledo police shot and killed a pit bull that charged at them when they were entering a residence to search it for drugs, authorities said.

Police issued a warrant yesterday for Milton Roberts, 31, of 1323 Elmwood Ave., for obstructing after he ran into his residence when officers arrived to search it about 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Entry team members were charged by the pit bull, which was shot by Officer Dave Cichocki.

Police then tossed a diversionary device inside the residence and found the suspect in the kitchen. They found $973 in his pocket, but did not locate any drugs, police said.

The suspect, who suffered a burned wrist from the diversionary device, and another man who was outside the residence when officers arrived were treated at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.
