Toledo police pursue lighthouse vandals

4/15/2006

Toledo police are seeking information through the Crime Stopper program about vandalism reported this week at a lighthouse on Summit Street at the entrance to Point Place.

Nine ground lights and the front window were broken, and a swastika was spray-painted on the back of the landmark. One of the lights was knocked over. City officials estimated the damage to be at least $1,000.

A police report on the crime was made Monday. Police did not know when the vandalism occurred, but they believe it happened during the night.

The 35-foot-high brick lighthouse was finished in 2003 as part of the Point Place Gateway Project.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Stopper program. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
