Two men were arrested yesterday on the Ohio Turnpike after being accused of trafficking nearly 40 pounds of cocaine, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Carlos Amezquita, 25, of Mexicali, Mexico, and Alberto Garcia, 27, of Rio Grande, Texas, were charged with drug possession and of trafficking in drugs.

They are being held in the Lucas County jail pending an appearance Monday in Maumee Municipal Court.

The men were eastbound on the turnpike near Albon Road in the vicinity of Toledo Express Airport about 1 p.m.

Their pickup was stopped for following too closely, Lt. Tony Bradshaw, a patrol spokesman, said. In a backseat, troopers found the cocaine with a street value of about $1.8 million.
