Springfield Township man held in rape, kidnapping

A Springfield Township man accused in the sexual assault of a 40-year-old woman has been indicted by a Lucas County grand jury for rape, felonious assault, robbery, and kidnapping.

Edward Jakobiak, 42, of 144 Merton Rd. is accused of raping the woman on Aug. 17 in the 3800 block of Kilburn Road in Richfield Township. A convicted sex offender, he is being held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of a $250,000 bond.

According to an affidavit filed in Common Pleas Court to obtain a search warrant, the woman told sheriff s detectives she met Jakobiak earlier that evening at the Barn, 3225 Centennial Rd., Sylvania Township, and that he later offered her a ride home.

The victim told authorities she was driven to Kilburn Road, where her clothing was forcibly removed. She said she was sexually assaulted and robbed of jewelry. She went to a nearby house to get help and later was treated at Flower Hospital.

The affidavit said the woman identified the defendant on Aug. 23 in a photo array.

Jakobiak was convicted of rape for the sexual assault of a juvenile girl in 1988. He is classified as a sexually oriented offender.
