Shot fired in holdup at convenience store

Two men, one armed with a gun and another with a knife, walked into a South Toledo convenience store and fired a shot in the establishment before taking a cell phone and pepper spray late Wednesday, police said.

The suspects entered Sammy s Market, 1762 Arlington Ave., about 8:55 p.m. One ordered a customer to the floor, while the other held a knife to the girlfriend of a store em ployee before demanding money from the cash register.

The employee said when the cash register wouldn t open, one suspect fired a shot near him. After the suspects failed to open the register, the men took a cell phone and a canister of pepper spray that was behind the counter.

The suspects fled in an unknown direction, the employee told police.
