Man found shot in car is still in intensive care

A man found shot after Toledo police responded to a call of a traffic accident late Friday remained in the intensive care unit in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center last night.

Terrence James, 42, was listed in serious condition, a hospital spokesman said.

Police responded to a possible traffic accident near Jefferson Avenue and 17th Street about 11:30 p.m. Friday. When officers approached the car, they found a man with a gunshot wound in his right thigh and a gun on the seat next to him.

Mr. James told police he had gone to the Brand Whitlock Homes near Belmont Avenue and Division Street to buy marijuana, according to a police report.

He said he was directed to a man who got into the passenger side of his car and pulled a revolver on him. The suspect told Mr. James to give me your money and reached over to undo Mr. James seat belt and search his pockets.

That s when Mr. James grabbed the gun, the men struggled, and the gun went off. The suspect dropped the gun and ran away, the report stated.
