GREEN SPRINGS, Ohio A family dog was killed yesterday in a fire that extensively damaged a house here, authorities said.
The blaze started about 10 a.m. in the kitchen area of the home of Robert Preston in the 100 block of Academy Street, Green Springs Fire Chief Greg Lowe said.
The blaze spread throughout the two-story home, causing about $100,000 damage. The cause of the fire was unknown yesterday and the State Fire Marshal s Office is investigating, the chief said.
It took firefighters with the Green Springs and Clyde fire departments about an 1 hours to get the blaze under control, Chief Lowe said.
Nobody was home at the time of the fire, except for the Preston family s black lab, who died, the chief said.
