ADRIAN Police today have released the identity of the 22-year-old victim in yesterday s Adrian shooting.

Michael Sumner, 22, of Adrian, was listed in serious condition today at University of Toledo Medical Center, formerly the Medical College of Ohio Hospital.

Anthony T. Vanzant, 42, was accused of shooting Mr. Sumner several times yesterday in what Adrian police are saying was a robbery that went sour.

Police were dispatched to the Village Green apartments about 3 a.m. and found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds, but the gunman had fled.

An Adrian police K-9 unit was able to track the man to another apartment, where he was arrested.

Police said it appears Mr. Vanzant and Mr. Sumner had no prior association with one another. Mr. Vanzant did not steal anything from Mr. Sumner, and the gun has not yet been recovered, police said.

Mr. Vanzant was staying in the apartment complex, while Mr. Sumner was visiting friends.

Mr. Vanzant was charged with six felonies: assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to rob while armed, armed robbery, felony firearm, carrying a weapon with unlawful intent, and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was being held in the Lenawee County jail in lieu of a $1 million bond.
