Toledo man assaulted on South Avenue

6/20/2007

A Toledo man was hurt seriously in an assault in the 2000 block of South Avenue in the city's south end, police said.

Michael Sattler, 39, was in serious condition yesterday in the University of Toledo Medical Center, formerly the Medical College of Ohio Hospital.

Police were sent to 2018 South about 9:40 p.m. Monday and found Mr. Sattler on the sidewalk, unresponsive and bleeding from the head and mouth.

His 12-year-old niece told officers he was jumped by a man, and a female tried to choke her and hit her several times.

A witness told police two males and a female came to the location looking for two people and asked Mr. Sattler to go outside to look at a car. That's when one of the men jumped Mr. Sattler, hitting him and stomping on his face when he was on the ground. The man also had a handgun. The niece wasn't hurt.
