Former FBI chief in Toledo charged in alleged abduction case

The former special agent in charge of the Toledo FBI office is being held in a Virginia jail on charges that he held a woman against her will for several hours.

Carl Lee Spicocchi, 54, of Arlington, Va., has been charged with abduction, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and assault and battery for an incident that occurred about 10:35 p.m. on Aug. 23.

According to a brief crime report from the Arlington County police department, officers responded to a domestic incident that night in the 300 block of South 23rd Street.

A woman told officers that a man that she knows had held her against her will in an apartment for several hours. Mr. Spicocchi was later located in the building and was in the possession of a handgun. He was arrested.

Mr. Spicocchi has been on temporary assignment as a supervisor at the FBI headquarters in Washington for about a year and a half, said Scott Wilson, spokesman for the FBI office in Cleveland.

Supervisory special agents Scott Smith and David Dustin have been heading up the Toledo FBI office since then, Mr. Wilson said.

Although he couldn t comment on the case against Mr. Spicocchi, Mr. Wilson did say the FBI would conduct its own internal investigation. He said he could not comment on that investigation because of privacy issues.

"The FBI will work with the Arlington police department in regards to any investigation they are conducting," he said.

Court records indicate a preliminary hearing scheduled for Thursday was continued until Oct. 18.
