A Toledo firefighter was hurt early today while helping fight a house fire of an-as-yet undetermined origin at 1402 Prouty Ave. near Spencer Street in south Toledo, authorities said.

Firefighter Dave Blough received medical treatment and was sent home for the rest of the day, Toledo Fire Lt. Michael Duran said. He did not say if anyone was home at the time of the fire, which was reported at 12:54 a.m.

Fire crews arrived at the two-story, wood frame house two minutes later and found flames on the second floor of the house. They had the fire under control at 1:20 a.m., the fire lieutenant said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimate is available this morning. The Red Cross is assisting the occupants with accommodations.

The Lucas County auditor s Web site lists the owners of the house as Steve and Denise Hornyak.
