Pit bull seized after attack on boy, 11, in South Toledo; owner is cited

A pit bull that injured an 11-year-old boy Tuesday evening in South Toledo remained at the Lucas County dog pound yesterday.

Garrell Coleman of Tecumseh Street was treated at Toledo Hospital for multiple bites from the dog owned by Bridget Cartlidge, 44, of Pulaski Street.

Garrell was walking with a group of children near Ms. Cartlidge's residence, where he said she and her daughters were sitting outside with Champion, the family's pit bull, when it attacked Garrell.

He climbed onto a nearby car, but the pit bull pulled him back to the ground. Garrell, who suffered bites to his hand and knee, was running away when the dog bit into his buttocks, ripping off his belt.

A male good Samaritan stepped in and pulled the dog off Garrell, who was said to be bleeding profusely when police and medical crews arrived.

Mrs. Cartlidge received several citations relating to the improper management of a vicious dog, including failure to obtain a license, failure to buy vicious-dog insurance, and failure to control her dog.
